The Ministry of Health has confirmed a third case of Ebola (Bundibugyo Virus Disease) in Kenya, involving a 65-year-old woman who was already in quarantine after coming into close contact with the first two patients.
In a press release issued on Friday, October 16, the Ministry said the woman developed fever, a sore throat and general weakness while under quarantine, prompting her isolation and testing.
Her samples tested positive at both the National Virology Reference Laboratory and the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI). She has since been transferred to the Infectious Disease Unit, where she is receiving supportive care from trained health workers.
The Ministry said early detection had enabled the patient to receive prompt treatment while reducing the risk of further transmission. It added that the second patient remained stable and was responding well to supportive care.
Authorities have traced 127 of the 130 identified contacts, representing 97.7 per cent, with the remaining three still being pursued for tracing and quarantine.
