Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Renson Ingonga has reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Azerbaijan following a meeting with the country’s outgoing ambassador to Kenya, Sultan Hajiyev.
Ingonga hosted Ambassador Hajiyev at his office during a courtesy call ahead of the diplomat’s departure for another diplomatic assignment.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the two officials to reflect on the growing relations between Kenya and Azerbaijan, particularly in strengthening cooperation between their respective prosecution institutions.
Ingonga thanked Hajiyev for his leadership and contribution to advancing bilateral relations, which culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Kenya’s Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and Azerbaijan’s Office of the Prosecutor General.
The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation through prosecutor exchange programmes, professional training and capacity building, aimed at improving the skills and competencies of prosecutors in both countries.
The DPP revealed that the first batch of Kenyan prosecutors is expected to travel to Azerbaijan for training early next year, marking a key step towards implementing the agreement.
He expressed confidence that the partnership would promote professional collaboration, encourage the exchange of prosecutorial experiences and strengthen institutional capacity in the administration of justice.
Ingonga also commended Hajiyev for his role in deepening Kenya-Azerbaijan relations and wished him success in his next diplomatic assignment.
