Kenya Records Six Ebola Recoveries, Goes 18 Days Without New Case

1 Mins read

Kenya has recorded six recoveries from the Ebola Bundibugyo outbreak, with no new infections reported in 18 days, as the country moves closer to ending the outbreak.

In a press statement issued on Friday, November 6, 2026, the Ministry of Health said a sixth male patient had recovered and was being discharged after testing negative and meeting all medical requirements.

The country has recorded nine confirmed cases since the first imported infection was reported on October 6, 2026. One patient remains under treatment and continues to receive close medical monitoring.

The ministry said all confirmed infections were linked to one known chain of transmission, with no evidence of community spread.

Meanwhile, 66 contacts have completed the mandatory 21-day monitoring period and returned home, while another 52 are expected to complete quarantine by November 11.

According to Director-General for Health Dr Patrick Amoth, Kenya’s response has focused on early detection, isolation, treatment, contact tracing, protecting health workers and safe burials.

The ministry said the outbreak will only be declared over after the last patient is discharged virus-free, followed by 42 consecutive days without another confirmed case.

Kenya has also screened more than 760,000 travellers across 26 points of entry as part of efforts to prevent further infections.

The government said there are currently no restrictions on travel, trade or public gatherings.

Members of the public have been urged to observe hygiene measures, report suspected cases and seek medical attention early. Suspected cases can be reported through the toll-free number 719 or the Jali WhatsApp chatbot on 0700 719 719.
