Absa Bank Kenya PLC has significantly boosted the 2026 Magical Kenya Open with a commitment of Sh65 million towards the prestigious golf tournament scheduled for 19th to 22nd February at Karen Country Club, Nairobi.
This move clearly demonstrates Absa’s continued support for the DP World Tour event, and the bank will be celebrating 15 years of sponsorship this year. Out of the total sum, Sh40 million will be directed to Kenya Open Golf Limited as a support for the organization and holding of the tournament.
Besides the major sponsorship, Absa will also sponsor the popular Beat the Pro Challenge that features young golfers playing against professionals at a specific hole. The winning junior in the challenge will be granted a fully paid junior account of Sh50, 000, the fund being used to develop the talent and provide financial literacy at an early stage.
The Chief Executive Officer of Absa Kenya Bank, Abdi Mohamed Abdi, shared the banks determination to continue raising the profile of Brand Kenya on the international scene, thus positioning the country as a leading tourism and sports destination, during the announcement.
“The tournament is a magnificent opportunity for Kenya to be exposed globally as not only a golfing hub but also a top tourism destination, ” Abdi said.,

Consistently investing in the Magical Kenya Open Golf Tournament continues to cement our belief that we are not just supporting a tournament but that we are backing our local players’ ability to compete on the global stage, proving that local stories matter even on the world podium,” added Mr. Mohamed.
A spirited field of 114 top golfers from 25 countries, including 10 Kenyan professional and amateur players, has been drawn to this years Magical Kenya Open. The tournament fever is intensified by the presence of five past champions who will undoubtedly provide stiff competition.
Speaking at the same event, the KOGL Chairman Patrick Obath, welcomed Absa’s continued support in sports sponsorship, noting the importance of public-private collaborations in sustaining world-class events that are hosted in Kenya.
“For 15 years, Absa Bank has consistently supported the Magical Kenya Open Golf Tournament, propelling the event into a platform that has become one of Kenya’s most prestigious sports tourism events. Sponsorships from the private sector not only strengthen Kenya’s ability to host globally competitive sports events, but also showcases the country’s muscles in infrastructure development, hospitality, national pride and sporting excellence,” said Mr. Obath.
A total purse of Sh348. 3 million, which is one of the largest in the area, will be fought for by the players over four rounds. As the event solidifies its position as a premier event on the DP World Tour calendar, the prize money is a clear indication of the concerted efforts to keep the tournament at the highest level.
