I&M and KCDF Foundations Seal KES 64.8M Deal for Green and Digital Transformation

The I&M Foundation and the Kenya Community Development Foundation (KCDF) have formalised a KES 64.88 million partnership aimed at accelerating green innovation and digital transformation initiatives across Kenya.

The renewed collaboration seeks to support innovators and organisations developing technology-driven solutions to address environmental challenges and strengthen community resilience.

Supporting Innovators Driving Sustainable Change

Under the programme, 10 organisations and 6 individual innovators will receive financial support and capacity-building assistance to develop scalable solutions that integrate environmental sustainability with digital technology.

The initiative is designed to ensure that selected ideas not only receive funding but are also equipped with the technical and operational support needed to grow and sustain long-term impact.

Building on Three Years of Environmental Impact

The partnership builds on a previous three-year environmental conservation programme implemented between 2021 and 2023, with an investment of KES 57.5 million.

During that period, the initiative promoted environmental stewardship among children and youth in Kilifi and Narok counties through tree planting, clean energy adoption, and community engagement.

The programme reached 170 schools, engaged nearly 63,000 young people, and sensitised more than 9,400 households on environmental conservation practices.

Shift Toward Innovation-Led Sustainability

Speaking during the signing ceremony, I&M Bank Group Executive Director Sarit Shah said the new phase marks a strategic shift toward innovation-driven sustainability solutions.

“As we reflect on the impact achieved over the last three years, we are equally excited about the future. We believe sustainable transformation happens when communities, institutions and innovators work together to solve real challenges,” said Shah.

He added that the partnership will focus on combining technology, environmental stewardship, and community empowerment to deliver scalable and lasting change.

Strengthening Kenya’s Climate and Digital Agenda

The programme reflects a growing recognition of the role of technology in advancing environmental sustainability and climate resilience.

At a time when climate challenges are intensifying, the partnership aims to accelerate locally developed solutions that integrate digital innovation with environmental action.

Supported innovators will also benefit from structured mentorship and capacity strengthening to enhance scalability and long-term sustainability.

Advancing Inclusive and Community-Led Development

The initiative underscores the importance of collaboration between financial institutions, development organisations, and local communities in driving sustainable development.

By empowering young people and innovators, the partnership seeks to strengthen Kenya’s capacity to respond to environmental challenges while promoting inclusive economic growth and innovation-led transformation.
