The government is set to implement a rationalization program. This program is therefore, to ensure the equitable distribution of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) teachers across schools, to bridge persistent gaps.
Speaking at the opening of the 2025 STEMtastic Adventures Africa Symposium at the Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA).
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announced the initiative during the official opening of the 2025 STEMtastic Adventures Africa Symposium, held at the Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA).
Ogamba revealed that the Ministry of Education plans to hire 24,000 new teachers in September. Furthermore, with a significant number trained in STEM subjects.
The government is also constructing 1,600 new science laboratories. Set to start between July and October in schools. Lacking necessary infrastructure for practical science learning is a big challenge.
The symposium brought together educators, policy makers, researchers. Also students from across Africa were present to share strategies for scaling up STEM learning and innovation.
