United States International University (USIU-Africa) has emerged as the overall winner of this year’s University PR Challenge, beating top rivals with an outstanding display of creativity, strategy, and communication skills.
The annual competition, which brought together leading universities across the country, tested students on their ability to design compelling campaigns, handle crises, and navigate modern communication challenges in a digital-first world.
Strathmore University took second place, Mount Kenya University (MKU) came in third, while Riara University finished fourth.
USIU’s winning campaign wowed judges for its originality, clarity, and real-world relevance. The team also stood out for its teamwork and strong grasp of the strategic role of PR in today’s fast-changing media environment
Judges drawn from both industry and academia praised the high standards of this year’s contest.
“Each team delivered outstanding presentations. The depth of research, creativity, and passion displayed indicates a bright future for the PR industry in Kenya. USIU’s campaign stood out for its innovation and flawless execution,” said communications consultant Alex Owiti.
Corporate affairs expert Lorraine Onduru added that the challenge showcased the strategic thinking and agility of young communicators:
“This competition highlights the immense talent within our universities. The students demonstrated the ability to create impactful solutions. All teams deserve commendation.”
PR scholar Dr. Caroline Kiarie echoed the same, describing the students’ work as a reflection of dedication and strong mentorship.
Organisers also stressed the importance of the challenge as a bridge between classroom learning and industry practice. Mary Njoki, Founder and CEO of Glass House PR Limited, said the platform helps students gain hands-on experience and build networks with professionals.
Speaking after the win, Azza Mohammed, a member of the USIU team, said the victory was proof of the solid training students receive at the institution:
“This win means so much to us. It validates the skills and mentorship we’ve received at USIU. We dedicate it to our mentors and fellow students who walked this journey with us.”
