1 Mins read

Grassroots football action returns to the capital this weekend as the Tujiamini Cheza Dimba Nairobi Edition kicks off on Saturday, October 4, at Dandora Stadium.

The community tournament, powered by SportPesa, aims to spotlight emerging football talent while promoting health awareness and youth empowerment.

The day-long event will bring together teams from Nairobi’s vibrant neighborhoods, including Dandora, Kayole, Mathare, Kibera, and Dagoretti. The men’s competition will see Dandora All Stars, Victor’s Faith Church FC, Mathare Flames, Mseto FC, Blazing Eagles, and Ten Daily FC face off, while Achievers FC and UEFA Despanol Queens will battle it out in the women’s category.

Winners stand to gain more than just bragging rights. The men’s champions will walk away with KES 250,000, full kits, and three years of mentorship, while the women’s winners will receive a KES 50,000 one-off prize.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Deborah Maina, Public Relations and Advertising Executive at SportPesa, underscored the event’s broader mission:

“Cheza Dimba is more than a tournament; it’s proof that when communities believe in themselves, transformation follows. We are proud to provide a platform where young people can showcase their talent, while also addressing important issues like health awareness. Sport and community go hand in hand, and through Tujiamini, we are helping build a stronger, more confident Kenya.”

The Nairobi edition is expected to draw a huge crowd, with free entry giving fans a chance to enjoy a blend of football, music, and purpose. Performances by Susumila and local artists will energize the audience, while the event will also mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month with free health education, screenings, and family resources.

The Cheza Dimba tournament has already toured across Central, Western, North Rift, North Eastern, Eastern, and Coast regions, where Coast’s finals ended in thrilling penalty shootouts. Next month, the competition will head to Nyanza, continuing its mission to unite communities through football and talent.

In addition, the Nairobi event will feature Bronze Kwa Ground giveaways, rewarding random talented individuals and small businesses, and celebrating changemakers in sports, arts, media, and enterprise.

By merging football, talent recognition, and health awareness, Tujiamini’s flagship initiative continues to show how sport can be a powerful tool for community transformation.
