Safaricom Doubles Home Fibre Speeds to Power Smart Living

Safaricom has announced a major upgrade to its Home Fibre service, increasing internet speeds by up to 2.5 times across all packages at no additional cost to customers.

The move is set to enhance user experience for households, with faster browsing, smoother streaming, and improved performance for multiple connected devices, while maintaining current pricing.

Significant Speed Boost Across All Plans

Under the new enhancements, entry-level Home Fibre packages will now offer speeds of up to 15 Mbps, while mid-tier plans will deliver 35 Mbps and 80 Mbps. Premium packages will see speeds rise to as high as 400 Mbps, catering to homes with heavy internet usage.

This upgrade ensures customers across all tiers benefit from faster connectivity without having to change their subscription plans or incur extra charges.

Driving Smart Living and Digital Connectivity

Speaking on the development, Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa said the upgrade reflects the growing importance of reliable high-speed internet in modern homes.

“As homes become increasingly connected, reliable high-speed internet is no longer a luxury but an essential service for modern living. By upgrading Home Fibre speeds, we are delivering greater value to our customers, strengthening our market leadership, and laying the foundation for smarter, more connected homes and communities across Kenya,” he said.

He added that the improved speeds will support seamless multi-device streaming, buffer-free video calls, and consistent performance as customer expectations continue to rise.

Expanding Reach and Market Leadership

Safaricom’s Home Fibre network now covers more than 800,000 homes across Kenya, reinforcing its position as a leading provider in the fixed internet market. The company attributes its growth to strong customer trust, reliable infrastructure, and consistent service delivery.

The speed upgrade is also aimed at future-proofing households as demand for smart home technologies and digital services continues to increase.

  • Wi-Fi Bamba 6 Mbps upgraded to 15 Mbps (KES 1,600)
  • Wi-Fi Bamba 10 Mbps upgraded to 20 Mbps (KES 2,000)
