In a significant development, Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli has confirmed the interdiction of eight police officers following the escape of Collins Jumaisi, a prime suspect in the alleged murder of 42 women in Kware.

The escape occurred early Tuesday morning, leading to a major shake-up within the police force.

The officers, including the Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) of Gigiri, the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) of Gigiri Police Station, as well as the Duty Officer, Duty NCO, Station Guards, and Report Office Personnel, have been suspended as part of the investigation into the incident.

Masengeli, who was accompanied by Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Amin and Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat at Gigiri Police Station, stated that Jumaisi managed to escape alongside 12 other Eritrean suspects who were being held for illegal entry into Kenya and were awaiting repatriation.

The Acting IG indicated that preliminary investigations suggest that Jumaisi’s escape was likely facilitated by insiders, given that officers were appropriately deployed to secure the station.

“The escape of Collins Jumaisi, a key suspect in the Kware murder case, has prompted immediate action. We have launched a thorough investigation and any individuals found to be complicit will face legal consequences.” Masengeli stated

The police have initiated a manhunt to recapture Jumaisi and the other escapees. Authorities are calling on the public to provide any information that might aid in the recapture of the suspects, particularly Jumaisi.

“Members of the public with relevant information we urge you to contact the nearest police station or use the police hotline numbers: 999, 112, 911, and 0800 722 203,” he added

The Internal Affairs Unit is overseeing the investigation into the escape, and further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
