Police have arrested two suspects and recovered several Kenya Power electricity meters during an operation targeting the theft of electricity infrastructure in Lucky Summer, Nairobi.
Officers from Lucky Summer and Ruaraka police stations arrested the suspects on Tuesday in a joint operation with Kenya Power officials. The operation followed intelligence indicating that suspected stolen electricity meters were being kept within the area.
Acting on the information, the officers moved to the suspected location and recovered several Kenya Power meters believed to have been stolen. Police also found other assorted items suspected to be stolen, adding to the evidence being examined as part of the investigation.
The two suspects are expected to appear in court as police continue investigating the source of the recovered equipment and their alleged involvement in stealing and handling electricity infrastructure.
Investigators are also looking into other reported cases of stolen power equipment to establish whether the suspects could be linked to additional incidents. The probe is expected to establish how the meters were obtained, where they were intended to be taken and whether other people could have been involved in the alleged theft.
The recovery is part of ongoing efforts by Kenya Power and security agencies to tackle the theft and illegal handling of electricity equipment. Power infrastructure remains a key target because stolen equipment can interfere with electricity services and create serious safety risks.
