The National Police Service (NPS) has rejected media reports linking Nalitex Limited to the procurement and manufacture of the new Kenya Police Service General Duty uniform.
In a statement issued on August 30, 2026, NPS said Nalitex Limited did not participate in the development, selection, procurement or manufacture of the new uniform and was neither awarded the contract nor engaged as a subcontractor.
The Service clarified that the uniforms are being manufactured by Bedi Investments Limited, which was lawfully awarded the contract following a procurement process conducted in line with the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act, 2015.
According to the NPS, the decision to change the General Duty uniform was part of broader police reforms recommended by the Maraga Task Force on Police Reforms, chaired by former Chief Justice David Maraga.
The Service said police officers had expressed dissatisfaction with the existing uniform during consultations, with many supporting a return to the previous uniform colours.
The Kenya Police Service Uniform Committee subsequently worked with the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) to develop standards for the new uniform.
Four Kenyan textile manufacturers were invited to submit samples as part of efforts to promote local manufacturing. They included Bedi Investments, Rivatex East Africa, Thika Textile Mills and Sunflag Textiles & Knitwear Mills.
NPS said only Bedi Investments and Rivatex submitted samples within the stipulated period. Following evaluation and public participation, Bedi Investments’ sample was adopted and approved.
The Service maintained that Nalitex had received no purchase order or payment from NPS, terming its association with the procurement false and malicious.
NPS said it welcomes scrutiny of public spending but urged the media and public to rely on accurate and verifiable information.
