NCBA Digital Banking Transforms How Millions Access Financial Services

2 Mins read

A customer can now open a bank account, apply for a loan, pay bills and transfer money without stepping into a banking hall, as NCBA Group accelerates its digital banking strategy across East Africa.

The shift towards mobile and online banking is changing how individuals and businesses access financial services, with the lender increasingly relying on technology to reach customers, speed up transactions, and expand financial inclusion.

NCBA Group has emerged as a major player in digital financial services, recording significant growth in digital lending as more customers embrace mobile banking and technology-driven financial solutions.

In 2025, the Group disbursed KES 1.4 trillion in digital loans, representing a 33 per cent increase compared to the previous year. The momentum continued into 2026, with digital loan disbursements reaching KES 819 billion in the first half of the year, a 26.9 per cent increase from the corresponding period in 2025.

The growing appetite for digital services is also reflected in everyday banking activities. NCBA reported that 98 per cent of its transactions were conducted through digital channels in the first quarter of 2026, while mobile banking accounted for 94 per cent of transaction volumes by June.

At the centre of this transformation is the NCBA NOW App, which allows customers to access banking services from their smartphones. Through the platform, eligible customers can open accounts remotely, monitor balances, transfer money, pay bills, purchase airtime and apply for loans.

Customers who qualify can access unsecured digital personal loans ranging from KES 1,000 to KES 1 million, with repayment periods of between three and 12 months.

Beyond conventional mobile banking, NCBA is expanding its digital ecosystem through LOOP, its digital financial services subsidiary.

The platform combines banking, payments, budgeting and investment services, allowing customers to open accounts in under four minutes. Users can also access personal loans of up to KES 3 million, overdrafts and investment opportunities starting from KES 1,000.

For small businesses, LOOP BIZ+ provides integrated solutions designed to simplify merchant payments, financing and business management.

Other platforms, including CarDuka, ConnectPlus, BOOSTA and PropertyDuka, are extending the Group’s digital reach into vehicle financing, corporate banking, SME lending and property transactions.

These investments are contributing to NCBA’s growing regional footprint, with operations and digital lending partnerships serving customers in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Ghana.

The Group’s digital strategy is also supported by investments in technology infrastructure, artificial intelligence, data analytics and partnerships with telecommunications companies, helping improve credit assessment and service delivery.

Customer experience indicators have also improved, with NCBA reporting a Digital Net Promoter Score of 69 per cent and system uptime of 99.68 per cent in the first half of 2026.

Despite the growing shift towards online services, the lender maintains a physical network of more than 120 branches to support customers who still require face-to-face banking assistance.

NCBA is positioning technology as a key driver of financial inclusion, business growth and regional competitiveness, bringing essential financial services closer to individuals and enterprises.
