NCBA Introduces Direct KPLC Bill and Token Payments Through USSD

1 Mins read

NCBA Bank has introduced a service enabling its customers to pay Kenya Power electricity bills and purchase prepaid tokens directly from their bank accounts through the utility company’s *977# USSD platform.

The integration makes NCBA the first bank in Kenya to offer existing customers direct account payments through the platform, providing an alternative for households and businesses seeking convenient ways to manage electricity expenses.

Customers can access the service by dialling *977#, following the prompts and selecting NCBA as their preferred payment option. They can then complete electricity bill payments and token purchases without navigating separate payment processes.

The new service forms part of NCBA’s efforts to simplify everyday banking transactions and improve access to essential services through digital solutions.

Dennis Njau, NCBA Group Director of Retail Banking, said the integration responds to customers’ need for convenient and accessible ways to manage routine expenses.

“At NCBA, our focus is on making banking work around our customers’ lives. This integration with Kenya Power’s *977# platform is a practical example of that commitment, delivering a simpler way for customers to manage an essential everyday expense,” Njau said.

He added that connecting banking services with platforms customers regularly use would help deliver solutions that are relevant to their daily needs.

Electricity payments are a recurring expense for households and businesses, making accessible payment channels important for customers managing their budgets and cash flows.

By linking bank accounts directly to Kenya Power’s USSD platform, NCBA aims to reduce the complexity involved in settling bills and purchasing prepaid electricity tokens.

The service also reflects the growing role of digital integration in Kenya’s financial services sector, where banks are increasingly connecting their platforms with utilities and other essential service providers to improve customer experiences.

For businesses, easier access to electricity payments could support routine financial management by providing another channel for settling utility expenses.

NCBA said the rollout reflects its broader ambition to develop customer-focused solutions that save time, improve convenience and enable customers to manage their financial responsibilities more efficiently.

The bank continues to pursue innovations that connect banking with everyday activities, positioning accessibility and simplicity as key considerations in the delivery of financial services.
