Kayole Starlets have strengthened their squad ahead of the second leg of the Kenya Women Premier League, signing three promising talents from the Safaricom Chapa Dimba All-Stars team.
The trio goalkeeper Sonia Wambui, striker Calta Nasambu, and versatile player Naomi Nanjala—have officially joined the club as it seeks to climb from its current seventh-place position into the top three.
Rising Stars from Grassroots to Premier League
All three players previously featured for Barcelona Ladies SC, a side competing in Kenya’s National Super League. Their rise underscores the growing impact of grassroots football in shaping elite-level talent.
The players also earned international exposure after being selected for the Chapa Dimba All-Stars squad that travelled to Huesca, Spain, for a high-performance bootcamp in September last year—an experience that has sharpened their skills and tactical awareness.
Players Eye Impact at Top Level
Speaking after her move, Naomi Nanjala expressed excitement about finally stepping into top-flight football:
“It has always been my ambition to play in the Kenya Premier League. Joining mid-season gives me an opportunity to contribute to the team’s success. Safaricom Chapa Dimba has played a significant role in my journey.”
Goalkeeper Sonia Wambui echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the tournament’s role beyond competition:
“Chapa Dimba goes beyond a normal football tournament, it means a lot to young talents in this country. I am grateful for this opportunity and ready to give my best.”
Chapa Dimba Pipeline Continues to Deliver Talent
The trio joins other Chapa Dimba alumni at Kayole Starlets, including Eunice “Bobi” Nabwoba and Praxedes Shivikhwa, further highlighting the tournament’s role as a reliable talent pipeline.
Across the country, more than 30 players from recent Chapa Dimba seasons have transitioned into clubs in both the Kenya Premier League and National Super League. Notable names include:
