Farmers in Meru County are set to benefit from an integrated package combining connectivity, insurance, agricultural advisory services and production support as Safaricom expands its Bundle Ya Wakulima solution across Kenya.
Launched as part of Safaricom’s PATA MORE customer value proposition, the solution is designed to help farmers access essential services throughout the farming cycle while improving productivity and building resilience.
Bundle Combines Connectivity and Farm Support
Bundle Ya Wakulima brings together voice, data, SMS and WhatsApp services with agricultural insurance, advisory services and discounted production support.
Eligible farmers can also access support for farm inputs and mechanisation, alongside credit pathways.
The solution is available to farmers countrywide through 54416#, with flexible daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and six-month options allowing users to select packages based on their needs and farming seasons.
Speaking during a farmer engagement forum in Meru that brought together more than 500 farmers, Safaricom Chief Consumer Business Officer Fawzia Ali said supporting farmers was critical to strengthening Kenya’s food security.
“Meru is one of Kenya’s agricultural powerhouses, and supporting farmers is critical to strengthening food security,” Ali said.
She added that Bundle Ya Wakulima brings together affordable connectivity, protection and growth support to give farmers tools to increase productivity and build resilient livelihoods.
Farmers Get Flexible Packages
The daily package costs KSh40 and provides 250MB of data, 20 minutes and free WhatsApp access.
The weekly package costs KSh300 and offers 1.5GB of data, 100 minutes, Tuunza Mapato insurance comprising KSh30,000 inpatient cover and KSh100,000 funeral cover, plus farm input discounts and access to Seeds of Gold.
Farmers subscribing to the monthly package at KSh1,200 receive 7.5GB of data and 500 minutes, alongside the insurance cover, farm input discount and Seeds of Gold services.
The 90-day package costs KSh3,500 and provides 25GB of data and 1,500 minutes, while the 180-day package costs KSh6,500 and offers 56GB of data and 3,000 minutes.
The longer-term packages also include insurance, farm input discounts, Seeds of Gold, free WhatsApp and access to the WhatsApp Farming Companion.
Solution Built Around Farmer Needs
Safaricom said the bundle was developed using farmer data and insights, recognising the importance of voice-based communication in how farmers share information and make decisions.
By combining several services in a single package, the company aims to make it easier for farmers to access connectivity and other agricultural support without having to seek each service separately.
The Meru engagement marked the fifth regional farmer empowerment event following similar engagements in Kirinyaga, Bomet, Nakuru and Bungoma.
Available Countrywide
Safaricom said Bundle Ya Wakulima is currently available to farmers across the country.
Farmers can access the solution by dialling *544*16# and select a package based on their preferred duration and farming needs.
The initiative comes as farmers continue to rely increasingly on digital connectivity for accessing market information, agricultural advice, financial services and other tools that can support farm productivity and household livelihoods.
