I&M Bank has partnered with Google to roll out the Google Hustle Academy programme for Kenyan entrepreneurs, offering free digital and artificial intelligence training to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
The initiative aims to help small businesses adopt practical AI-powered tools and digital skills needed to remain competitive in an increasingly technology-driven business environment.
Announced in Nairobi on May 25, 2026, the partnership comes as Kenya’s MSMEs continue to play a central role in the economy, accounting for more than 80 per cent of employment nationwide.
Bridging the Digital Skills Gap for Small Businesses
Despite their importance to the economy, many Kenyan MSMEs continue to face challenges adapting to rapid digital transformation due to limited access to technology and digital training.
Through the Google Hustle Academy, entrepreneurs will receive bootcamp-style training focused on business strategy, leadership, digital marketing, and the use of artificial intelligence tools to improve productivity and business growth.
The programme is designed to give entrepreneurs practical knowledge that can help them market products, engage customers, streamline operations, and expand into new markets.
I&M Bank Says AI Knowledge Is Key to Business Growth
Speaking during the announcement, Shameer Patel said the partnership reflects the bank’s commitment to ensuring customers are not left behind in the growing AI revolution.
Patel noted that modern businesses require more than financing to succeed in today’s fast-changing economy.
“Being on your side means making sure our customers are not left behind in the AI revolution,” he said.
“We recognise that access to capital is only part of what it takes to build a resilient business. Today’s businesses also need knowledge, technology, and capability-building support to thrive.”
He added that the collaboration with Google strengthens the bank’s role as a long-term growth partner for Kenya’s entrepreneurial community.
Google Expands AI Skills Across Africa
The Google Hustle Academy was first launched in 2022 to support African entrepreneurs with practical business and digital training.
Since its launch, the programme has trained more than 18,000 SMEs across the continent, with many businesses reportedly experiencing increased revenues and job creation after participating.
A Google representative said the company’s broader strategy is focused on expanding access to AI-centered tools and digital skills training across Africa.
“We believe that the future of Africa’s digital economy lies in the hands of individuals and entrepreneurs alike,” the representative said.
The programme has already graduated more than 18,500 entrepreneurs across Sub-Saharan Africa, with women accounting for more than half of all participants.
Free Access for Eligible MSME Customers
Under the partnership, eligible MSME customers of I&M Bank will be able to access the training programme at no cost.
Entrepreneurs interested in joining the programme can register online, visit the nearest I&M Bank branch, or contact their relationship managers for assistance.
The initiative is expected to accelerate digital adoption among Kenyan small businesses while helping entrepreneurs better position themselves in a rapidly evolving AI-driven economy.
I&M Bank Deepens Support for Entrepreneurs
For I&M Bank, the collaboration forms part of a broader strategy aimed at supporting businesses beyond traditional banking services.
With more than 50 years of operations in Kenya, the bank says it is increasingly focusing on equipping entrepreneurs with tools, knowledge, and partnerships that can help strengthen resilience and long-term growth.
I&M Group PLC, the parent company of I&M Bank, is listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange.
