Safaricom and NSE Launch Ziidi Trader to Expand Market Access

Safaricom, in partnership with the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE), has launched Ziidi Trader, a new trading platform integrated into the M-PESA app that enables Kenyans to buy and sell listed shares directly from their mobile phones.

The platform, unveiled on February 10, 2026, marks a major milestone in advancing financial inclusion and broadening participation in Kenya’s capital markets by leveraging M-PESA’s extensive reach.

Expanding Access to Investing

Ziidi Trader is designed to simplify access to the stock market by offering a secure, easy-to-use and fully digital trading experience within the M-PESA ecosystem. Through the platform, customers can buy and sell shares, monitor their investment portfolios and access market insights without the need for separate accounts or paperwork.

The platform operates under the oversight of the Capital Markets Authority (CMA), ensuring investor protection, transparency and market integrity, while supporting informed long-term investing through clear disclosures and investor education.

Building on the Ziidi Investment Platform

The launch of Ziidi Trader builds on Safaricom’s broader commitment to financial access and wellness. The Ziidi Investment Platform began with Ziidi Money Market Fund (MMF), which promoted disciplined saving and investing, followed by Ziidi Shariah, offering Shariah-compliant investment options.

With Ziidi Trader, Safaricom is expanding the platform further by opening up direct access to the stock market through mobile technology.

“Ziidi Trader is a powerful step in democratizing wealth for our customers,” said Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa. “For eighteen years, M-PESA has transformed how Kenyans live, work and do business. Today, in partnership with the NSE, we are extending that impact to how our customers build and grow their wealth.”

Bringing the Stock Market Closer to Kenyans

NSE Chief Executive Officer Frank Mwiti said the partnership with Safaricom is aimed at making capital markets more accessible to everyday Kenyans, both locally and in the diaspora.

“By making NSE trading available through M-PESA, we are making it easier for more people to invest and play an active role in Kenya’s economic growth,” Mwiti said.

Beyond Shares: Corporate Bonds and Portfolio Growth

In addition to equities, Ziidi Trader allows customers to invest in corporate bonds, offering an opportunity to diversify portfolios and explore new investment options within Kenya’s financial markets.

Safaricom and NSE Launch Ziidi Trader to Expand Market Access

Customers can access Ziidi Trader via the Financial Services tab on the M-PESA app. After accepting the terms and conditions, users can begin investing from as little as one share, lowering the entry barrier to the stock market.

Driving Financial Literacy and Digital Inclusion

Ziidi Trader aligns with Safaricom’s smartphone and digitisation agenda and complements the NSE’s efforts to modernise market access and promote investment education. The platform is expected to evolve further, accommodating more players across the investment community as part of a shared commitment to inclusive financial participation.

Now live on the M-PESA app, Ziidi Trader offers millions of Kenyans a modern, reliable and fully digital way to participate in the country’s economic growth, reinforcing Safaricom’s drive to empower customers with the tools and confidence to build long-term wealth.
