Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has warned school principals not to refuse admission to Grade 10 learners who have not paid school fees or do not have uniforms, following a recent government instruction.
CS Ogamba said that only 8% of the learners had not returned to school at the time of the presidential directive, implying that giving them space will not put a strain on the schools’ resources. He also indicated that those who would not comply face disciplinary action, including the possibility of dismissal.
A few weeks after the first Batch of Grade 10 learners had started reporting to school, the government is geared to enroll the ones left so as to achieve 100% transition. CS Ogamba assured that there is enough space in schools for the learners, noting that only a fewmaybe three to five students per schoolare still unreported.
The Cabinet Secretary further pointed out that the government had disbursed the first installment of capitation funds, which is 50% of the annual allocation, to ensure that schools run smoothly during the first term. Besides, he stated that by last Friday half of the Grade 10 textbooks were in schools, with the rest expected by the end of January.
