Bamburi Cement PLC has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting quality construction materials and strengthening collaboration with the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) following a high-level engagement between the two institutions.
Bamburi Cement Chief Executive Officer Geoffrey Ndugwa visited the KEBS headquarters in Nairobi for an introductory meeting with KEBS Managing Director Esther Ngari, EBS, as the two organisations explored ways to deepen their long-standing partnership within Kenya’s built environment sector.
The discussions focused on safeguarding consumer confidence, improving product integrity, and supporting sustainable construction practices as the industry continues to evolve.
Tackling Substandard Construction Products
A key area of focus during the meeting was the need to address the growing challenge of substandard products in the regional market and ensure that construction materials meet required safety and quality benchmarks.
Ndugwa highlighted Bamburi Cement’s
commitment to strict compliance with national quality standards, noting that maintaining product quality remains central to the company’s operations.
“Maintaining strict conformity to national quality standards is not just a regulatory obligation for Bamburi Cement; it is the cornerstone of our corporate DNA,” Ndugwa said.
He added that collaboration with KEBS through market surveillance, audits, and manufacturing facility assessments plays a critical role in protecting consumers and ensuring the durability of infrastructure projects.
KEBS Pledges Support for Industry Growth
KEBS Managing Director Esther Ngari welcomed the engagement, saying continued collaboration with industry players is essential in helping businesses meet regulatory requirements while enhancing competitiveness.
Ngari said KEBS remains committed to providing quality infrastructure, technical expertise, and standardised frameworks that support industrial development, environmental sustainability, and consumer protection.
“Continuous, direct engagement with our primary industry players is key to helping local enterprises meet regulatory criteria seamlessly while scaling up industrial competitiveness,” she said.
Future Collaboration on Sustainable Building Solutions
Bamburi Cement and KEBS said they will continue maintaining open communication channels, increasing consumer safety awareness, and participating in technical discussions on future construction materials.
The partnership is expected to support efforts towards safer buildings, sustainable construction practices, and improved confidence in locally manufactured products.
