Bamburi Cement Plc has appointed Mr. Geoffrey Ndugwa as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective April 1, 2026. He takes over from Mr. Mohit Kapoor, who exits after steering the company through a critical transition phase.

The announcement was made by the company’s Board, marking a significant leadership shift at one of Kenya’s leading cement and concrete solutions providers.

Seasoned Leader with Pan-African Experience

Mr. Ndugwa brings over 20 years of executive experience within the Holcim Group, having held senior leadership roles across sub-Saharan Africa. Prior to his appointment, he served as Mergers and Acquisitions Projects Director for Holcim’s Middle East and Africa (MEA) region.

He has also served as CEO of Lafarge South Africa and held top executive roles in Malawi, Zimbabwe, and Nigeria, demonstrating a strong track record in driving business growth and transformation across diverse markets.

Board Expresses Confidence in New CEO

Bamburi Cement Board Chairman Dr. John Simba described Mr. Ndugwa as a transformative leader with a proven ability to deliver sustainable profitability and strengthen governance frameworks.

“The Board is delighted to welcome Mr. Ndugwa. He is a seasoned business leader who has successfully held several strategic roles across the continent, delivering excellent corporate results,” said Dr. Simba.

He also commended outgoing CEO Mr. Mohit Kapoor for stabilizing the business during a pivotal turnaround period, noting his leadership during a unique phase of transition.

Strong Academic and Professional Credentials

Mr. Ndugwa holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Edinburgh Business School at Heriot-Watt University in the UK. He also earned a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Civil Engineering from the University of East London.

Additionally, he holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK) and is a Chartered Marketer. He is affiliated with the Uganda Institute of Professional Engineers and the UK Chartered Institute of Marketing, and is a graduate of the Lafarge University/INSEAD Executive Development Programme.

Career Journey Across Engineering and Corporate Leadership

Mr. Ndugwa began his career as a Structural Engineer before joining Lafarge in Uganda in 2001. Over the years, he held multiple roles within the company, including leadership positions in marketing, corporate sales, and commercial operations.

He briefly worked at Barclays Bank as Head of Business Support before rejoining Lafarge, where he continued to rise through the ranks, eventually serving as Country CEO in Malawi and Zimbabwe.

Strategic Growth and Expansion Plans

Bamburi Cement, now a member of the Amsons Group, is actively pursuing long-term growth strategies aimed at enhancing production capacity and achieving clinker self-sufficiency.

In line with this vision, the company signed a US$250 million (KSh 32 billion) Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract with Sinoma CBMI Construction Co., Ltd for the development of a clinkerisation plant in Matuga, Kwale County.

Investment in Sustainable Manufacturing

The new clinkerisation facility, with a capacity of 1.6 million tonnes annually, will incorporate advanced, carbon-neutral technologies designed to minimize environmental impact.

The project is central to Bamburi Cement’s strategy to double its production capacity, increasing clinker output from 1 million tonnes to 2.6 million tonnes, and cement production from 1.8 million tonnes to 4 million tonnes.

Driving Kenya’s Infrastructure Agenda

Through these investments, Bamburi Cement aims to strengthen its position as a key player in Kenya’s construction sector, supporting national infrastructure development and contributing to the country’s broader economic transformation agenda.
