The Government has begun consultations with SportPesa League clubs in an effort to resolve the prevailing impasse and pave the way for the resumption of competitive football in Kenya.
Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Salim Mvurya held a consultative meeting with chairpersons of SportPesa League clubs at Talanta Plaza in Nairobi on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
Mvurya said the meeting provided an opportunity for the Government to listen to concerns raised by club officials and consider proposed interventions to address the challenges affecting the league.
The CS acknowledged the important role played by clubs in the growth of football, particularly in identifying, nurturing and developing talent across the country.
He urged all stakeholders to embrace dialogue and compromise, warning that prolonged disagreements could disrupt competitions and undermine Kenya’s football development pathway.
Mvurya said governance and administrative disputes should not hinder talent development or prevent footballers from competing and advancing their careers.
He also stressed the need for sustained competitive football as Kenya prepares to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) PAMOJA with Uganda and Tanzania.
The Government said it will continue engaging football stakeholders to find a sustainable solution that protects players’ opportunities and supports the long-term development of Kenyan football.
