CFAO Mobility Kenya has partnered with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), Kenya Police Service Traffic Department, Kenya Scouts Association (KSA) and First Step Road Safety Initiatives to strengthen road safety education in schools across Kenya.
The programme, launched in Nairobi, seeks to equip learners with practical road safety knowledge while empowering teachers, Scouts leaders and other school stakeholders to promote safer road use and protect children.
Through the initiative, Kenya Scouts leaders will receive training, educational resources and practical tools to support road safety activities within their schools. The programme will also support participation in the annual Scouts Road Safety Badge competitions, encouraging learners to develop responsible road-use habits from an early age.
CFAO Mobility Kenya Managing Director Arvinder Reel said education was critical in creating lasting behavioural change and nurturing responsible road users.
“Road safety is a shared responsibility, and education is one of the most effective ways of creating lasting behavioural change,” Reel said.
He noted that engaging young people early could help establish a culture of safety that extends beyond schools to families and communities.
Besides Scout leaders, the programme will train teachers, Scout patrons, school transport personnel and other stakeholders involved in protecting learners and promoting road safety.
The initiative brings together government agencies, law enforcement and road safety organisations to combine technical expertise, enforcement perspectives and practical guidance in strengthening road safety awareness.
The first phase will focus on schools in Nairobi, with plans to expand the programme to other parts of the country. Schools targeted include Upper Hill School, Bidii Primary School, Utawala Academy, Highway Secondary School and Ruaraka Academy, among others.
First Step Road Safety Initiatives CEO George A. Ayienda said reducing road crashes requires collective action from stakeholders across different sectors.
According to NTSA, more than 4,000 people die in road crashes in Kenya annually, highlighting the need for stronger road safety interventions.
NTSA data indicates that Kenya recorded 4,458 road crashes in 2025, up 3.4 per cent from 4,311 crashes reported in 2024.
