Coast Innovators Idd Munga, Elizabeth Muema Bag KES 1M Tujiamini Gold Prize
Two outstanding innovators from Kenya’s Coast region, Idd Munga and Elizabeth Muema, have been awarded the KES 1,000,000 Tujiamini Gold Prize by SportPesa, receiving KES 500,000 each to scale impactful projects in Kilifi and Mombasa counties.
Recognised for their dedication to addressing environmental challenges and creating economic opportunities, the two winners demonstrated exceptional community impact and a strong vision for sustainable change.
In Rabai, Kilifi County, Idd Munga is combating environmental degradation through a community-driven model that restores the semi-arid landscape by planting trees. Income from the sale of mature trees is used to provide sanitary pads for girls and women in the community, addressing both ecological restoration and social vulnerability.
With the KES 500,000 grant, Munga plans to expand water access by installing tanks to sustain seedlings, procure additional seedlings from the Ministry of Agriculture, and construct a shelter for community training. He is also working with local youth to revive the Rabai Football Club, offering mentorship and growth opportunities.
In Mombasa, fellow Gold winner Elizabeth Muema is uplifting women and youth through LaDenser Crochets, an initiative that teaches crochet as a creative income-generating skill. Her workshops and online tutorials support stay-at-home mothers, young creatives, and jobseekers seeking entrepreneurship opportunities.
“Winning KES 500,000 through Tujiamini has given me the chance to strengthen my business model, purchase better tools, and create higher-quality tutorial content. My goal is to uplift more women and youth by equipping them with meaningful skills,” Elizabeth said.
SportPesa’s Head of Partnerships and Sponsorships, Japheth Akhulia, praised the winners, noting their alignment with Tujiamini’s mission.
“Idd and Elizabeth reflect the spirit of Tujiamini. Their work shows how belief, creativity, and community ownership can unlock real progress. We are proud to support initiatives that restore dignity, build resilience, and create sustainable impact in the Coast region,” he said.
As the Coast region celebrates its 2025 Gold winners, attention now turns to the upcoming National Awards, where exceptional Kenyans will be honoured for their contributions to sports, community development, entrepreneurship, creativity, and social change.
Through its Gold, Silver, and Bronze categories, Tujiamini by SportPesa continues to spotlight and empower individuals shaping a stronger, more inclusive future.
