Samsung Electronics has unveiled its latest foldable smartphone lineup, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8, marking the beginning of pre-orders across East Africa.
The new flagship devices debut with One UI 9, Samsung’s latest software platform, introducing enhanced security, artificial intelligence (AI)-powered productivity tools, simplified device migration and improved cross-platform connectivity. The company says the latest Galaxy Z series is designed to deliver three distinct experiences focused on productivity, immersive entertainment and personal expression.
Enhanced security with One UI 9
Samsung has strengthened device security through a dual-layer protection system tailored for AI-powered on-device processing.
The new Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP) creates encrypted environments for app-specific tasks, isolating personal data from the broader operating system. It works alongside Knox Vault, Samsung’s hardware-based security platform that protects cryptographic keys, passwords and authentication credentials against physical attacks.
Users can also monitor AI activity through the new AI Assistant Activity Dashboard, which displays background AI operations and allows users to review or revoke permissions. In addition, Privacy Alerts notify users whenever background applications attempt to access sensitive permissions without authorisation.
Speaking during the launch, Manish Jangra, Head of Mobile Experience Division at Samsung East Africa, said the new software was developed to give users greater control, transparency and productivity.
“We designed One UI 9 specifically for tech enthusiasts and power users who demand high-performance capabilities without sacrificing system transparency or control,” he said.
Easier switching from iPhone to Galaxy
Samsung has introduced several features aimed at making it easier for users to move from Apple’s ecosystem to Galaxy devices.
The upgraded Smart Switch application now supports wireless iOS-to-Galaxy transfers using a QR code and can migrate passkeys, call history, saved credentials, accessibility settings and eSIM profiles.
Quick Share has also been upgraded to support two-way wireless file sharing with Apple’s AirDrop, enabling seamless transfer of high-resolution files between compatible devices.
AI-powered productivity tools
The new Galaxy Z series includes several AI-powered features designed for multitasking and professional use.
Customers purchasing the devices will receive a complimentary six-month Google AI Pro subscription, which comes with 5TB of cloud storage.
Samsung has also introduced a Warranty and Care Settings Hub within One UI 9, allowing users to access device diagnostics, warranty information, remote support and Samsung Care+ services from a single interface.
Customers who purchase through Samsung.com and subscribe to a monthly Samsung Care+ plan will receive the first three months of damage protection free.
Pricing and availability
Samsung has opened pre-orders in Kenya across multiple storage configurations.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra starts at KES 271,000 for the 12GB RAM/256GB storage model, KES 297,100 for the 12GB/512GB variant and KES 349,300 for the flagship 16GB/1TB version.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 is priced from KES 243,900 for 12GB/256GB, KES 270,000 for 12GB/512GB and KES 322,200 for the 16GB/1TB model.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip8 starts at KES 159,200 for the 12GB/256GB version and KES 185,300 for the 12GB/512GB model.
Multiple colour options
The new foldable lineup will be available in Graphite and Cream, alongside exclusive colours including Violet Shadow, Lavender and Pink. Customers purchasing through Samsung.com will also have access to online-exclusive finishes such as Green Shadow, Pistachio and Mint.
The launch underscores Samsung’s continued investment in foldable technology as it seeks to expand premium smartphone experiences through enhanced AI capabilities, stronger security and improved cross-platform compatibility for consumers across East Africa.
