NCBA Group Drives Green Mobility Transition in Kenya’s Agribusiness Sector

NCBA Group has financed the deployment of 15 electric tipper trucks to Browns Plantations Kenya (BPK) Limited in a move aimed at accelerating sustainable logistics and green mobility in Kenya’s agribusiness sector.

The deployment, launched in Kericho on Friday, forms Phase One of a planned 30-unit fleet of FOTON 6-ton electric tipper trucks under NCBA Group’s KES 2 billion Electric Mobility (e-mobility) financing programme.

The trucks have been financed through NCBA Leasing LLP, reinforcing the bank’s growing position in structured asset financing and environmentally sustainable lending. NCBA Group currently holds a 35.4 per cent Hire Purchase market share as of April 2026.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, NCBA Group Director for Asset Finance and Business Solutions Lennox Mugambi said the initiative demonstrates the lender’s commitment to supporting Africa’s transition to clean mobility solutions.

“This milestone demonstrates NCBA Group’s commitment to financing the future of mobility in Africa. Through our EV Financing Programme, we are enabling enterprises like Browns Plantations Kenya Limited to transition into cleaner, more efficient operations without compromising productivity,” said Mugambi.

He added that the project reflects the practical application of sustainable finance through scalable and commercially viable green investments.

The financing model adopted by the bank enables businesses to access project-level capital through structured asset financing and leasing arrangements designed to accelerate the adoption of electric mobility technologies.

The project is being implemented in partnership with ElandX, an East African provider of integrated electric truck and charging solutions for corporate clients.

Under the arrangement, ElandX is providing a fleet-as-a-service model that includes vehicle leasing as well as installation of charging infrastructure at Browns Plantations Kenya facilities. Four EV charging units have already been installed to support uninterrupted fleet operations.

ElandX Co-founder Chalker Kansteiner said the partnership highlights the growing role of collaboration between financiers, technology providers, and corporates in scaling clean transport solutions across Africa.

“At ElandX, we are focused on enabling practical, scalable electrification for commercial fleets across Africa. This partnership with BPK and NCBA Group demonstrates how technology, infrastructure, and financing can come together to accelerate the transition to clean, efficient logistics,” he said.

The partnership between NCBA Group and ElandX is expected to contribute to increased adoption of electric commercial vehicles in Kenya and across the region as businesses seek cost-effective and environmentally sustainable transport solutions.
