World Vision Kenya (WVK), through its Inuka Angaza Fund, successfully hosted the Less Steps for Water Run at its National Office in Karen, Nairobi. The event rallied staff, corporate partners, families, and supporters to raise funds aimed at addressing water scarcity in Salgaa, Nakuru County.

The initiative seeks to expand access to clean water in six schools, ensuring children in the region can enjoy improved health, education, and overall well-being. Many children in Salgaa walk up to six kilometers daily in search of water, often missing school and exposing themselves to waterborne diseases such as cholera, typhoid, and dysentery.

Since June 2021, WVK, through the Inuka Angaza Fund, has been working on long-term solutions to water insecurity. With support from Nakuru County, KenGen, corporate partners, and well-wishers, the initiative has already made significant progress.

Key achievements so far include providing clean water to 695 children at Mimwaita and Gicheha Primary Schools and installing two 30,000-litre rainwater harvesting tanks to ensure a reliable water supply.

Speaking at the event, World Vision Kenya’s National Director, Gilbert Kamanga, emphasized the broader impact of the initiative.

“These initiatives have significantly improved hygiene, health, and learning conditions, enabling children to focus on their education in a safer environment. The success of the ‘Less Steps for Water Run’ is not just about fundraising—it is about changing lives,” Kamanga stated.

The Umoja Water Project, implemented in partnership with the Nakuru County Government, has also transformed community water access. To date 2,079 people now have access to improved drinking water sources.

Among them is Kayanet Primary School and Umoja ECD now have clean water, benefiting 390 children. In effort to ease water scarcity a modern automated water kiosk has been established at the borehole site.

Additionally 8km pipeline, funded by the Nakuru County Government, has expanded water access to homes and schools, connecting many residents acecss to clean water

Beyond clean water, WVK is spearheading the construction of a Community Resource Centre at Belbur Primary School. The facility will be equipped with computers and a library to promote digital literacy and serve as a space for mentorship, life skills training, and counseling services.

Dr. David Githanga, Chair of the WVK Board, thanked participants, sponsors, and partners for their support.

“Your contributions are helping more children in Salgaa access safe water, quality education, and a healthier future. Together, we have taken fewer steps for water, so the children of Salgaa can too,” he said.
