Wanyama Clinches Victory at NCBA Golf Series Held at Kenya Airforce Golf Club

Harun Wanyama claimed victory in the highly competitive Division One category at the ninth leg of the NCBA Golf Series, held on Saturday at the Kenya Airforce Golf Club in Eastleigh, Nairobi. This marked the first time the series was hosted at the Airforce’s 9-hole course.

A field of 97 golfers competed for coveted spots at the series’ Grand Finale, with fierce competition across all categories. Players vied for top honors in Division 1, Division 2, Division 3, and the Junior category.

Wanyama, playing off a handicap of 4, secured his win with 40 points. Major Elvis Murunga followed closely as the runner-up with 37 points, playing off a handicap of 6.

In the Division Two Men’s category, Wally Bitok, playing off a handicap of 17, clinched the top spot with an impressive score of 46 points. Jacob Chacha, with a handicap of 20, finished as the runner-up, carding 43 points.

Carol Nthiwa, playing off a handicap of 23, emerged victorious in the Division Two Ladies’ category with 33 points, narrowly beating Damaris Kikwal (handicap 21), who finished second with 32 points. Col. Henry Mwereneru, playing off a handicap of 50, dominated Division Three with a remarkable score of 49 points.

In the Junior category, Hakeem Mutungi (handicap 21) won with a score of 28 points. Jeremiah Kariuki, playing off a handicap of 33, claimed the Guest title with 39 points, while Jared Onyancha (handicap 32) secured the Staff title with 35 points.

NCBA Bank’s Eastleigh Branch Manager, Morris Malonza, highlighted the significance of the series, stating, “We believe that sports, and particularly golf, have the power to inspire, connect, and empower individuals. That’s why the NCBA Golf Series is more than just a competition; it’s a platform for aspiring golfers to hone their skills, for seasoned players to test their mettle, and for the entire golfing community to come together and celebrate their shared passion. We are therefore delighted that we have finally brought this series to this great and historic club for the first time since we began the journey in 2021.”

The NCBA Golf Series will continue next week with the 10th and 11th legs, set to take place at Thika Sports Club and Jinja Golf Club in Uganda on Saturday, August 3rd.
