Kalonzo Urges Wiper MPs to Reject ODM Cabinet Nominees During Parliament Vetting

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has called on Members of Parliament (MPs) from his party to reject the appointment of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) members nominated for Cabinet Secretary positions.

Speaking at the Kyuso Full Gospel Church in Mwingi North on Sunday, Kalonzo urged Wiper legislators to vote against the approval of the four ODM nominees when they appear before Parliament for vetting.

The four nominees in question are John Mbadi, Wycliffe Oparanya, Hassan Joho, and Opiyo Wandayi. Kalonzo expressed strong reservations about their ability to serve in the government, which they had previously opposed on grounds of oppressing Kenyans. “Those four names, when they come to parliament for vetting, Wiper members should vote ‘No’,” Kalonzo told the Wiper MPs.

Kalonzo further questioned the lack of consultation within the Azimio coalition, of which he is a principal. He pointed out that he was not consulted before the appointments were made, despite one of the nominees, Opiyo Wandayi, serving as the coalition’s minority whip in the National Assembly.

The Wiper leader also emphasized his commitment to remain outside the government, rejecting any notion of joining as a Cabinet Secretary. “I am not interested in joining the government as a CS. I will stick with the Gen Z’s on fighting for a better country,” Kalonzo stated, highlighting his dedication to advocating for the youth and pushing for governmental reforms.

Kalonzo’s remarks come amid ongoing political maneuverings within the Azimio coalition and the broader Kenyan political landscape.

His firm stance against the ODM nominees is likely to add to the complexities of the parliamentary vetting process and the coalition dynamics.
