1 Mins read

Visa, a global leader in digital payments, has teamed up with Carrefour, operated exclusively by Majid Al Futtaim in Kenya, to offer Visa cardholders a chance to win exclusive discounts and giveaways when they shop on weekends. This campaign aims to enhance the shopping experience for Visa cardholders and drive digital payment adoption across the country.

Running until September 15, 2024, the campaign provides various incentives for shoppers. Visa cardholders making in-store purchases worth KES 5,000 or more on weekends at participating Carrefour branches will receive assorted giveaways. Additionally, customers who place online orders worth KES 4,000 or more through the Carrefour mobile application can enjoy savings of KES 500 every weekend.

Eva Ngigi-Sarwari, Country Manager for Kenya at Visa, expressed her excitement about the partnership, stating, “We are thrilled to be partnering with Carrefour to reward loyal Visa cardholders and enhance their shopping experience. This is part of our broader strategy to enhance the payment experience at key retail partners and drive digital payment adoption across the country. By integrating our advanced payment solutions with Carrefour’s wide retail network, we aim to provide a seamless shopping experience that aligns with the lifestyle and expectations of modern consumers.” Ngigi Sarwari said

Christophe Orcet, Regional Director – East Africa, Majid Al Futtaim Retail, echoed these sentiments, “Our partnership with Visa, a globally recognised leader in digital payments, aligns perfectly with our commitment to providing added convenience and value. By leveraging Visa’s seamless payment solutions and our extensive retail network, we aim to offer customers a truly rewarding shopping experience. This initiative reflects our dedication to meeting the evolving needs of our customers.” Orcet stated

The campaign capitalizes on the growing number of transactions at point-of-sale (POS) terminals and online platforms in Kenya. According to the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), card transactions at POS terminals reached nearly 5 million in February 2024, up from 3.9 million in February 2023 and 3.66 million in February 2022.

Visa and Carrefour’s collaboration marks a significant step in promoting digital payments in Kenya, promising greater convenience and rewards for consumers while reinforcing both brands’ commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction.
