Kenya’s female rally driver, Lisa Christoffersen, has received a KES 1 million boost from Safaricom PLC ahead of this year’s WRC Safari Rally.
Sponsorship Package for Mama Chui
Christoffersen, popularly known as ‘Mama Chui’ of the Lioness Heels Rally Team, will compete in her new Subaru N15 with navigator Christabel Wacuka. The pair has trained together for six months in preparation for the event.

In addition to cash support, she received merchandise and KES 50,000 in airtime to cover data and communication needs during the rally.
Returning Competitors
This marks the second time Christoffersen and Wacuka will compete in the Safari Rally. Their first attempt in 2024 saw them reach the podium.
The sponsorship recognizes their talent and encourages more women to participate in motorsport.
Safaricom Commits to Women Empowerment
Safaricom CEO, Dr. Pete Ndegwa, said the support is part of the company’s broader effort to uplift women breaking barriers in sports.
“This support goes beyond our commitment to the event. We are providing reliable network connectivity, IoT-enabled telematics solutions, and a world-class media centre, ensuring the rally is powered by technology and excellence,” he said.
Rally Preparations and Team Goals
For Christoffersen, the sponsorship offers more than financial help. It validates her hard work in a male-dominated sport.
“Safaricom’s support gives our team confidence. The Lioness Heels Rally Team was formed to show that women belong in motorsport. This allows me to focus on the race and inspire more girls to chase their dreams,” she said.
Advanced Technology for the Rally
As the official technology and connectivity partner, Safaricom has installed digital infrastructure across rally zones. Connectivity on Wheels (COWs) enhance coverage, and 5G networks support livestreaming and real-time updates.
Media centres with high-speed Wi-Fi are set up for local and international journalists.
Safety and Coordination
Safaricom has also deployed IoT-enabled telematics across the rally’s safety fleet, including ambulances and rapid response units. Real-time vehicle data improves visibility, coordination, and emergency response across rally routes.
Through sponsorship, technology, and safety investments, Safaricom is helping make the 2026 WRC Safari Rally Kenya safer, more inclusive, and exciting for participants and fans alike.
