Safaricom Clinches Corporate Shield at the PGK Equator Tour Finale in Nairobi

Safaricom has emerged as the overall corporate champion of the Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) Equator Tour following a dominant season ending with the grand finale of the tour at the Royal Nairobi Golf Club.

The Safaricom team, consisting of Samuel Njoroge, Mutahi Kibugu, Mohit Mediratta, and Matthew Wahome, secured the first position in the Corporate Shield standings with a whopping 8, 555 points.

They beat other strong contenders such as Kenya Airways (6, 280 points), Johnnie Walker (6, 025), NCBA (5, 680), Visa Team (5, 435) and Britam (1, 855). This win highlighted Safaricoms stable and consistent performances all through the season and its continued engagement in professional golf in Kenya.

Strong Individual Performances Highlight the Season

The PGK Equator Tour climaxed a very competitive season that saw players showing the depth and elevated status of professional golf in Kenya. Greg Snow ended up as the overall individual winner after he amassed 4, 450 points throughout the tour, winning top honours mainly due to his consistent outings. Young, talented Safaricom, supported golfer Samuel Njoroge was second overall with 3, 680 points, putting a fitting final touch to a great season.

Mutahi Kibugu was sixth overall with 2, 728 points, fuelled by a second-place finish at the Royal Nairobi finale. Another Safaricom-sponsored golfer, Mohit Mediratta, ended the season at number eleven on the ranking with 1, 813 points, whereas Matthew Wahome just missed the top, finishing the tour with 160 points.

Samuel Njoroge, who won the event, referred to the season as a tough but great one.

“Being the first as a team in this PGK Equator Tour has been something amazing. The competition was of such a level that it required focus, discipline and consistency from us at all times. I am very glad of what our Safaricom team has done, ” the runner, up further stated.

Njoroge acknowledged that it was Safaricom’s support that gave them the assurance and the platform to compete at the world level.

Safaricom CEO  Dr Peter Ndegwa praised the team for their hard work and said that the success reflects resilience, talent and consistency.

“We are so happy with the performance of the players throughout the tour. Ending the corporate season with the Shield and one of the players finishing second overall is evidence of the amazing things that Kenyan golfers can do if they are well supported, ” said Dr. Pokot. In addition, he stressedSafaricom’s dedication to cultivating sports and supporting Kenyans in their passions.
