In an inspiring move to tackle crime and social issues in Kawangware, the Rockey Africa Foundation has teamed up with Crossover Basketball Ambassadors (CBA) to sponsor a transformative basketball tournament.
Held on August 24 at Gatina Primary Grounds, the event brought together 120 young players ranging from 11 years old and up.
With a KES 150,000 sponsorship from Rockey Africa, the tournament highlighted competition across five categories: Under 11, Under 13, Under 15 (Boys and Girls), and Seniors. Notable matches included Team Shaddy’s 4-0 win over Team Gitau in the Under 11 category, while Team Gitau countered with victories in the Under 13 and Under 15 Girls’ categories. The Senior division saw Team Shaddy’s decisive 94-64 victory.
Danniel Ochieng Omondi, Coach at CBA, praised the success of the initiative: “Our week-long camp combining basketball and Bible study aims to combat crime and drug abuse in the slums. We are grateful to Rockey Africa for their support in making this event possible.”

Founded in 2023, Crossover Basketball Ambassadors blends sports with community service and spiritual growth. Currently, 185 children are enrolled in their programs in Kawangware. The organization’s holistic approach seeks to turn the tide of crime and social deviance in underserved areas.
Rockey Africa’s CEO, Robert Kamau Wachira, emphasized the partnership’s significance: “Investing in CBA’s initiatives means empowering the youth of Kawangware to overcome their environment’s challenges and build a safer, brighter community.”
The collaboration extends beyond this tournament, with CBA offering basketball camps, Bible study sessions, and community service projects. This partnership exemplifies how community-driven efforts can effect real change, providing young people with opportunities to thrive and steer clear of crime.
