In a high-energy address to a crowd gathered at the Githurai roundabout this afternoon, Kalonzo Musyoka, the Leader of the Official Opposition, condemned the current Higher Education Funding Model as a “disaster” and “corrupt.”
Musyoka, who has been vocal in his opposition to various government policies, vowed to mobilize the nation against what he termed a flawed system.
Musyoka’s remarks came after attending a Sunday service at the Kimbo PFEA Church, where he joined religious and political figures including former Kiambu County Governor Ferdinand Waititu, DAP Kenya Party Leader Eugene Wamalwa, and Jubilee Party SG Jeremiah Kioni.
During his speech, Musyoka was met with chants of “Ruto Must Go!” from the enthusiastic crowd, reflecting widespread discontent with the current administration.

The opposition leader pledged that, if elected president, he would make both secondary school and university education free. He drew a parallel with the successful implementation of Free Primary Education under President Mwai Kibaki, emphasizing its transformative impact on Kenya’s younger generation. “Because of Gen Z and the Millennials, Kenya would never be the same again,” Musyoka asserted.
In addition to education issues, Musyoka called for accountability regarding the Githurai night of terror that occurred on June 25th. He criticized the government for failing to provide details about the incident, which reportedly resulted in the deaths of around 300 individuals at the hands of police. Musyoka described the lack of transparency as unacceptable and demanded justice for the victims.
Musyoka also expressed concerns over what he described as the “recycling” of former ministers into high-level positions within the Executive Office of the Presidency. He warned that any attempt to revive controversial legislation such as the Finance Bill, 2024, would face strong opposition from his camp, with potential protests expected.
Earlier in the day at Kimbo PFEA Church, Musyoka had praised Bishop James Wesonga for his sermon on national repentance and the need for divine intervention to address Kenya’s challenges. He highlighted the importance of spiritual leadership and encouraged unity in the face of the nation’s difficulties.
At the Githurai roundabout, Musyoka introduced his Official Opposition team, emphasizing their experience and commitment to resisting what he described as a return to authoritarian rule. The rally underscored the growing political tension and dissatisfaction with the current administration, setting the stage for a contentious electoral season ahead.
