NCBA boosts education with KES 12M scholarship fund, empowering over 150 students

NCBA Group has reinforced its commitment to education and community development by allocating KES 12 million towards scholarships for over 150 students across Kenya. This initiative is part of the bank’s broader KES 100 million annual pledge aimed at fostering socio-economic transformation through education, mentorship, and sustainability programs.

The scholarships, awarded through various education partners, seek to bridge financial gaps and provide young Kenyans with access to quality education and empowerment programs. The beneficiaries will also gain entrepreneurial and leadership training to enhance their future career prospects.

The KES 12 million scholarship fund has been distributed among several education-focused organizations, including: Edumed Trust, Dr. Choksey Albinism Foundation, M-PESA Foundation Academy, SOS Children’s Villages Kenya, Palmhouse Foundation, Daraja Kenya Initiative, Kenya Scholar-Athlete Project (KENSAP), WEDCO and Kianda Foundation

This financial injection will ensure that more young Kenyans from underprivileged backgrounds can access education and leadership training, equipping them to contribute meaningfully to the country’s economic development.

Beyond financial aid, NCBA is doubling down on its mentorship initiatives to shape well-rounded leaders. Speaking at the cheque handover ceremony, NCBA Group Managing Director, John Gachora, underscored the bank’s commitment to holistic student development.

“We believe in the power of education to shape the future. To top it up, we want to strengthen our mentorship initiatives to ensure that the students are well-rounded individuals who will be confident leaders in their communities. We aim to create a lasting impact by instilling a sense of responsibility and leadership in our young people.”

As part of this vision, NCBA has revived its Boys Mentorship Programme in collaboration with the Kenya Community Development Foundation (KCDF). The initiative, launched at Upper Hill Boys High School, is designed to equip young men with critical skills to navigate life challenges, build confidence, and develop leadership potential.

In alignment with NCBA’s “Change The Story” sustainability platform, the cheque handover event took place at Nairobi Railway Museum—a symbolic venue reflecting innovation and transformation. The event underscored how historical advancements in transportation can inform sustainable engineering solutions for the future, such as electric trains and solar-powered mobility.

To commemorate the occasion, NCBA, alongside its education partners and scholarship beneficiaries, planted trees at the Nairobi Railway Museum, reinforcing the bank’s commitment to environmental conservation.

NCBA remains dedicated to driving positive change through social welfare, environmental sustainability, and economic empowerment programs. Through these scholarships and mentorship initiatives, the bank continues to solidify its role as a key player in shaping Kenya’s next generation of leaders and innovators.
