Konza Technopolis CEO John Paul Okwiri has emphasized the pivotal role of technology, innovation, and smart infrastructure in Kenya’s economic transformation during the official launch of the Economic Survey 2025 held today at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

Speaking during the launch of economic survey, Okwiri reiterated Konza’s commitment to supporting Kenya’s digital economy and sustainable development goals.

“It is a great pleasure and a measurable privilege to be part of this important national event. The Economic Survey Report remains a cornerstone for data-driven policymaking, investment decisions, and strategic development planning,” said Okwiri.

He highlighted Konza Technopolis’ alignment with Kenya Vision 2030, the country’s long-term development blueprint launched in 2008, noting that the smart city was established to contribute at least 2% to the national GDP. He acknowledged the progress made in infrastructure development and investor settlement within the Special Economic Zone.

“As a smart city and innovation hub, we are grateful to be featured in this year’s Economic Survey. We look forward to working closely with KNBS to accurately measure Konza’s economic contribution,” he stated.

Okwiri outlined Konza’s strategic focus areas, which include sustainable infrastructure, tech startups, academic-industry collaboration, data center solutions, and the upcoming establishment of an artificial intelligence research laboratory.

“In alignment with national priorities such as job creation, digital transformation, and industrial diversification, Konza is well-positioned to serve as a key driver of economic growth,” he said.

He called on both public and private sector stakeholders to “liberate the data and insights” in the Economic Survey and invest further in innovation and smart infrastructure to maintain Kenya’s competitiveness in the digital era.

The 2025 Economic Survey Report offers critical insights into Kenya’s socio-economic performance, forming a foundation for informed policy formulation and sustainable development strategies.
