Kiambu courts Korean Government to digitize Sh4 Billion health facilities

1 Mins read

The County Government of Kiambu is seeking a strategic partnership with the Korean Government to equip and digitize more than 30 newly constructed health facilities, in a bold step aimed at revolutionizing healthcare delivery in the region.

Governor Kimani Wamatangi, who held a high-level meeting with Korean Ambassador to Kenya Kang Hyungshik, revealed that the collaboration would focus on installing state-of-the-art medical equipment in key health centers, including Lari, Bibirioni, Thogoto, Karuri, Juja, and Wangige Level 4 hospitals. Additionally, 26 Level 3 hospitals across the county are set to benefit from the ambitious upgrade.

The 30+ facilities, built over the past two years at a cost of Sh4 billion, mark a significant investment by the county towards improving access to healthcare. However, Wamatangi noted that the increasing number of patients visiting public hospitals has outpaced current capacity, underscoring the urgent need for modern equipment and digital systems.

“We have invested heavily in building the infrastructure, and now our focus is on equipping and digitizing these facilities to ensure efficient service delivery,” the governor said, expressing optimism about the potential Korean partnership.

Ambassador Kang welcomed the proposal and expressed his government’s interest in strengthening healthcare cooperation with Kenyan counties, noting that Korea’s expertise in medical technology and hospital digitization could offer valuable support.

The move is expected to not only enhance patient care but also reduce the pressure on existing facilities, streamline data management, and improve the overall efficiency of the county’s health system.

If successful, the partnership could serve as a model for other counties looking to modernize their healthcare services through international cooperation.
