Melbourne, Australia – February 2025
Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Hon. Rebecca Miano, has concluded a highly productive one-week tour in Melbourne, Australia, where she engaged with the vibrant Kenyan diaspora to strengthen collaboration in boosting tourism to Kenya.
The visit, which underscored the resilience, enterprise, and warm hospitality of Kenyans abroad, was a key step in advancing the One Kenyan Diaspora, One Tourist campaign. The initiative aims to encourage every Kenyan living overseas to champion Kenya as a preferred travel destination, leveraging their networks and influence to increase tourist arrivals.
During her engagements, Hon. Miano welcomed the support of various Kenyan Community Associations in Australia, emphasizing the need for a structured framework for collaboration and partnership. She noted that the unity and dynamism of the Kenyan diaspora could play a pivotal role in positioning Kenya as a top travel choice for Australians.
“The Kenyan diaspora in Australia is a well-organized and progressive community that continues to uplift the country’s global image. Their active involvement in promoting Kenya as a tourist destination is expected to significantly increase arrivals into the country, matching their numbers in Australia,” Hon. Miano stated.
The One Kenyan Diaspora, One Tourist campaign aligns with Kenya’s broader tourism growth strategy, which seeks to tap into diaspora influence, digital platforms, and global partnerships to boost visitor numbers. The initiative is also expected to enhance cultural tourism by encouraging Kenyans abroad to reconnect with their heritage and bring along friends and colleagues to experience Magical Kenya.
Australia has been identified as a growing tourism market for Kenya, with increased interest in safari experiences, beach tourism, and cultural heritage sites. Hon. Miano’s visit is expected to further solidify ties and open new opportunities for tourism investments and collaboration between the two nations.
