Huawei targets 7,000 Kenyan students in ICT competition with roadshow at Kenyatta University

October 25, 2024 – Nairobi, Kenya: Huawei Kenya hosted its second ICT Competition registration roadshow at Kenyatta University, part of its nationwide recruitment campaign aimed at attracting over 7,000 Kenyan students for the 2024-2025 ICT Competition. The event seeks to identify and nurture young talent from universities and technical colleges across Kenya, offering a global platform to showcase their technological skills and innovative solutions.
Speaking at the event, Huawei Kenya’s Partnerships and Corporate Affairs Manager, and Head of Huawei ICT Academy in Kenya, Mr. Michael Kamau, underscored the significance of the ICT Competition in shaping Kenya’s digital future. “We are committed to equipping the next generation of tech leaders with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in the digital era. The ICT competition is a unique opportunity for students to gain exposure to the latest technologies while solving real-world challenges,” said Kamau.
The Huawei ICT Competition, a flagship talent program, has grown significantly over the years. It offers participants practical experience in areas such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and network security, helping bridge the digital skills gap in Kenya and foster a culture of innovation.
At Kenyatta University, Huawei representatives provided students with hands-on demonstrations and walked them through the registration process. Hundreds of students attended the roadshow, expressing keen interest in the competition’s opportunities. The event also featured guest speakers, including Kenyatta University faculty, Huawei Kenya representatives, and former participants, who shared how the ICT Competition has enhanced their careers.
Beyond Competition: Career Opportunities and Global Exposure
Participants who excel in the ICT Competition have the opportunity to represent Kenya at the global finals, connect with industry leaders, and secure internships or job placements with Huawei or other leading ICT firms. National winners will receive certificates, gadgets, and other prizes, further motivating the young technologists.
Interested students can register online through the Huawei ICT Academy portal. After registration, participants will take part in preparatory workshops and boot camps to strengthen their skills ahead of the competition.
Huawei’s roadshow will also visit other leading universities, including Zetech University, Multimedia University, Embu University, and Dedan Kimathi University, to encourage student involvement across Kenya.
