The Earthshot Prize (TEP), a global initiative founded to accelerate solutions to the world’s most pressing environmental challenges, has officially opened entries for its 2025 cohort. Following a landmark year of record-breaking nominations and its first-ever awards ceremony on African soil, TEP continues its mission to inspire and reward transformative environmental innovations.
This year, MultiChoice, Africa’s leading entertainment company, returns as an official nominator for TEP, reinforcing its commitment to showcasing the continent’s ingenuity in tackling climate and environmental issues. The 2025 call for entries aims to identify and amplify solutions across TEP’s five critical Earthshots:

- Clean Our Air
- Revive Our Ocean
- Build a Waste-Free World
- Fix Our Climate
The 2024 awards cycle witnessed an extraordinary surge in interest, with over 2,000 entries from 139 countries, underscoring the growing global urgency to combat environmental challenges. The star-studded awards ceremony, hosted in Cape Town, South Africa, was a milestone event broadcast live to millions across the continent by MultiChoice.
The ceremony highlighted the transformative work of several African-led initiatives. Among the winners were:
Green Africa Youth Organisation (GAYO) – Ghana. Winner of the Clean Our Air Earthshot, GAYO impressed with its “Zero Waste Model,” a groundbreaking approach to reducing air pollution.
Awarded the Build a Waste-Free World Earthshot, Keep IT Cool revolutionizes sustainable refrigeration for small-scale farmers and fishers, helping to preserve food and reduce waste.
These projects exemplify the power of local innovations to drive global environmental progress. Each winner received £1 million in prize money to scale their solutions, further contributing to the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development..
