EABL posts KSh12.2 Billion Profit, declares KSh8 total dividend

1 Mins read

East African Breweries PLC (EABL) has reported a net profit of KSh12.2 billion for the financial year ended June 30, 2025, marking a 12% increase from the previous year, driven by improved macroeconomic conditions and foreign exchange gains.

The Nairobi Securities Exchange-listed brewer saw its net revenue rise by 3.8% to KSh128.8 billion, up from KSh124.1 billion in FY2024. The modest revenue growth was supported by easing inflation, a stronger Kenyan shilling, and a drop in interest rates across key East African markets.

In a notable turnaround, EABL recorded a KSh313 million foreign exchange gain, compared to a substantial forex loss of KSh3.9 billion the previous year. This shift contributed significantly to a 28% drop in net finance costs, which declined from KSh8.1 billion to KSh5.9 billion.

EABL’s earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) increased marginally to KSh25.2 billion, while profit before tax rose 15% to KSh19.3 billion. However, the company’s income tax expenses climbed 21% to KSh7.1 billion.

Earnings per share rose 16% to KSh11.97, with net profit attributable to shareholders increasing to KSh9.5 billion, up from KSh8.1 billion. Minority interest remained flat at KSh2.7 billion.

Following the improved performance, the board has recommended a final dividend of KSh5.50 per share. This, combined with the interim dividend, brings the total payout to KSh8.00 per share — a 14% increase on the previous year.

Despite the positive results, EABL has raised concerns about challenges facing the business, including the rise in illicit alcohol trade, high raw material and input costs, and subdued consumer spending due to inflationary pressures.

The company also reported an 8.3 billion shilling reduction in total debt, contributing to lower finance costs and improved balance sheet health.

EABL remains cautiously optimistic about sustaining growth in the coming year, amid ongoing efforts to navigate a complex operating environment.
