In a notable shift in Kenya’s government ministries, Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Cabinet Secretary (CS) Aden Duale formally handed over the Defence Ministry to his successor, Soipan Tuya.

During the handover ceremony, Duale praised Tuya for her extensive experience and expressed confidence in her ability to tackle the challenges facing the ministry with both dedication and skill.

Duale, who recently transitioned from Defence to the Environment portfolio, emphasized Tuya’s leadership strengths and the fresh perspectives she is expected to bring to the Defence Ministry. “Soipan Tuya, a leader with vast experience, will bring fresh perspectives to the role,” Duale remarked. “I am confident she will address the challenges ahead with dedication and skill.”

Duale affirmed his full support for Tuya as she steps into her new role and wished her success. Reflecting on his tenure, Duale highlighted significant achievements, including enhancing operational readiness and forging crucial partnerships. “I feel immense pride in the progress we made, from enhancing our operational readiness to forging key partnerships,” he stated.

The ceremony was attended by Chief of Defence Forces General Charles Kahariri and Principal Secretary Patrick Mariru, along with other senior officials. Earlier, Tuya, who previously served as CS for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, also handed over her former office to Duale, completing a notable swap of ministerial roles orchestrated by President William Ruto.

The transition marks a significant change in Kenya’s executive landscape, with both leaders poised to bring their expertise to their new roles.
