DIG Eliud Lagat monitoring Nairobi-Naivasha MMai Mahiu -Nakuru Highway

In an effort to ensure safety and smooth movement on one of Kenya’s busiest highways during the holiday season, Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service, Mr. Eliud Lagat, today led a high-profile traffic monitoring exercise along the Nairobi-Naivasha-MMai-Mahiu Highway. He was joined by the KPS Director of Logistics, Mr. Peter Ndung’u, and the National Police Service (NPS) Spokesperson, Dr. Resila Onyango, AIG.

The operation, which comes at a peak travel time as Kenyans head to various destinations for Christmas celebrations, has seen the deployment of multiple NPS units, including the General Service Unit (GSU) and Kenya Police Riders. These officers are working closely with traffic police to manage the flow of vehicles on the highway.

Reports from National Police Spokesperson Dr. Resila Onyango indicate that traffic is moving steadily but slowly due to the high volume of vehicles. To further bolster monitoring efforts, the National Police Airwing helicopter is airborne, providing a bird’s-eye view of traffic along major highways and assisting in rapid response to any incidents.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat has urged motorists to strictly adhere to traffic regulations to prevent accidents and ensure safety for all road users. Drivers have been particularly cautioned against overlapping and speeding, which are common causes of road mishaps.

Earlier in the day, a tragic accident occurred in the Magina area involving three French tourists traveling from Nakuru to Nairobi. The accident which happened in the morning hours, left one individual seriously injured and two others with minor injuries. Emergency services responded swiftly, and the victims were rushed to Kijabe Hospital for treatment.

The NPS has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of both local and international travelers during this festive period.

Lagat emphasized the importance of public cooperation: “We are here to ensure everyone reaches their destinations safely. We urge all motorists to observe the rules and be patient on the roads. Together, we can prevent unnecessary tragedies during this festive season.”

The Nairobi-Naivasha-MMai-Mahiu Highway remains under close surveillance as the NPS works tirelessly to manage the surge in traffic. The public is encouraged to report any emergencies or violations to the nearest police station or through the NPS hotline numbers.

The National Police Service extends its wishes for a safe and joyous holiday season to all Kenyans.
