Rebecca Miano, Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife at Museum of illusion
As the Easter holiday season kicks off, Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Rebecca Miano, has called on Kenyans to take the opportunity to travel and explore the rich diversity of their country. In a passionate appeal shared on her official X (formerly Twitter) account, Miano encouraged citizens to embrace domestic tourism and become ambassadors for Kenya’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.
“This Easter, I urge all Kenyans to take time to visit the wonderful destinations our country has to offer,” said Miano. “From the breathtaking landscapes of the Rift Valley to the white sandy beaches of the Coast, from the cultural richness of Western Kenya to the wildlife in our national parks — there is something for everyone.”
Miano emphasized that domestic travel is not only a chance for relaxation and discovery but also a vital contribution to the economy. With the tourism sector working hard to recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, increased local travel can provide a much-needed boost to small businesses, tour operators, and hospitality providers across the country.
The Cabinet Secretary also highlighted the Ministry’s recently launched digital campaign, aimed at promoting local destinations and redefining Kenya’s tourism identity beyond the traditional safari experience. The campaign, which involves local content creators and social media influencers, is showcasing hidden gems and inspiring Kenyans to rediscover their own backyard.
“This Easter season is the perfect time for families, friends, and individuals to travel, share their experiences online, and support our local tourism industry,” Miano stated. “You don’t need to travel far or spend a lot to enjoy what Kenya has to offer.”
She pointed out several affordable and family-friendly destinations suitable for Easter getaways, including Naivasha, Nanyuki, Kakamega Forest, Amboseli, Diani, Kisumu, and the Nairobi National Park. The Ministry is also collaborating with various stakeholders to provide travel packages and promote safe, sustainable tourism.
Miano’s message comes as part of a broader strategy to encourage year-round domestic tourism and reduce overreliance on international arrivals. By traveling locally, Kenyans play a crucial role in keeping the tourism industry vibrant and resilient.
As the long weekend approaches, the Ministry is urging Kenyans to travel responsibly, respect nature and local communities, and most importantly — enjoy and celebrate Kenya.
