CFAO Mobility Kenya has officially launched the Toyota bZ4X, marking the arrival of Toyota’s first-ever fully electric vehicle (EV) in the Kenyan market as the automaker accelerates its transition towards sustainable mobility.
The launch represents a significant milestone for Toyota, building on its 89-year global automotive heritage and six decades of presence on Kenyan roads. The bZ4X brings Toyota’s reputation for Quality, Durability and Reliability (QDR) into the electric vehicle era, offering customers a zero-emission vehicle designed for both urban driving and challenging road conditions.
Toyota bZ4X combines electric performance with rugged capability
The Toyota bZ4X, whose name represents “Beyond Zero” and “4-wheel Crossover,” delivers a driving range of up to 516 kilometres and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds.
The electric SUV features an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system and Toyota’s specialised X-MODE with Grip Control technology, designed to enhance performance on slippery and difficult terrain. With ground clearance ranging between 206mm and 212mm and a wading depth of up to 500mm, the vehicle is positioned as a capable option for Kenya’s diverse driving environments.
The bZ4X supports 150kW DC fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in approximately 30 minutes. Toyota has also backed the vehicle’s battery technology with an eight-year or 120,000-kilometre warranty.
CFAO Mobility strengthens EV ownership support
Beyond the vehicle launch, CFAO Mobility Kenya has committed to providing comprehensive aftersales support through its nationwide network of 43 branches and service centres.
The company said its globally trained technicians are equipped to support electric vehicle owners, providing customers with confidence in maintenance, servicing and long-term ownership.
“The bZ4X represents the next chapter in mobility. With its zero-emissions, impressive range and standard-setting safety features, this innovative SUV ensures our customers don’t have to choose between cutting-edge electric performance and trusted, durable engineering,” said Arvinder Reel, Managing Director of CFAO Mobility Kenya.
Toyota advances carbon neutrality strategy
CFAO Deputy Managing Director Joshua Anya said the bZ4X demonstrates Toyota’s multi-pathway approach towards achieving carbon neutrality while delivering style, performance and practicality.
“The Toyota bZ4X takes a step in Toyota’s multi-pathway strategy towards carbon neutrality, delivering a vehicle that provides value well beyond zero emissions,” Anya said.
The launch comes as Kenya’s electric mobility sector continues to expand, with EV registrations surpassing 35,000 units by 2025, reflecting growing consumer and industry interest in cleaner transportation solutions.
Advanced design, technology and safety features
Built on Toyota’s e-TNGA platform, the bZ4X features a low centre of gravity and high body rigidity designed to improve stability, handling and passenger comfort.
The SUV adopts Toyota’s modern “hammerhead” front design, aerodynamic enhancements and a spacious interior based on the “Family Lounge” concept, offering comfort across all seats.
Safety is supported by the latest Toyota Safety Sense technologies, including the Pre-Collision System, Lane Trace Assist and Safe Exit Assist, providing drivers with advanced active safety features.
Toyota enters competitive EV landscape
With improved battery technology, extended driving range and advanced onboard technologies, the Toyota bZ4X enters Kenya’s expanding EV market as a strong competitor, offering a combination of electric efficiency, reliability and all-terrain capability.
The launch signals Toyota’s continued commitment to supporting Kenya’s transition towards cleaner mobility while maintaining the durability and performance expected from the brand.
