Business operations at Stima Plaza Complex disrupted following county action

Business operations at Stima Plaza Complex in Nairobi were severely disrupted following actions by Nairobi County officials and the Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company. The Kenya Power Pension Fund (KPPF), the legal owner of the complex, has condemned the move, terming it unwarranted and disruptive.

According to a statement from KPPF, the disruption began two days ago when the Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company disconnected water and sewerage services to the complex without providing a clear explanation. KPPF maintains that there were no outstanding bills related to water, sewerage, or land rates owed to the County Government or its subsidiaries.

The situation escalated further this morning when Nairobi County officials dumped garbage outside the complex and blocked all entrances, effectively paralyzing business operations. Stima Plaza Complex, located along Kolobot Road in Parklands, houses major tenants, including Kenya Power and Lighting Company PLC (KPLC), Cooperative Bank, and Health Point services, among others.

In response, KPPF has strongly condemned the County’s actions, emphasizing that the disruption has negatively impacted businesses within the complex, including KPLC’s operations. The Fund, which manages retirement benefits for Kenya Power employees, reaffirmed its commitment to providing high standards of service to its tenants and ensuring minimal disruptions to business activities.

KPPF further assured the public that it is actively engaging with relevant government agencies to resolve the issue amicably and restore normalcy to the complex. The organization has pledged to keep all affected parties updated on the progress of negotiations to resolve the matter.

The unexpected disruption at Stima Plaza Complex raises concerns over the conduct of county authorities in enforcing regulations and the potential economic impact such actions may have on businesses and the public reliant on services from the affected institutions.

Efforts to reach Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company and Nairobi County officials for comment were unsuccessful at the time of publication. Meanwhile, businesses and stakeholders at Stima Plaza Complex remain hopeful for a swift resolution to prevent further inconvenience.
