Britam Launches Two Funds to Open Global Markets to Investors

Britam Asset Managers has launched two special funds that will give Kenyan investors wider access to global markets and a broader range of investment opportunities.

The Britam Enhanced Global Equities Special Fund and the Britam Multi Asset Special Fund target investors seeking long-term growth while spreading their money across different markets and asset classes.

The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) approved the two funds in August as Britam expands its investment products beyond Kenya’s domestic market. CMA data shows that assets held in collective investment schemes reached KSh948.7 billion in June, marking a 59.1 per cent increase from a year earlier.

Britam Asset Managers manages more than KSh300 billion, making it one of Kenya’s five largest asset managers. The company also leads the fixed income category, with more than KSh55 billion under management as of July.

“Every day, Africans participate in the global economy as consumers, businesses and users of technology created around the world. We believe they should also have the opportunity to become investors in the companies driving that economy, own a stake in their growth and share in the value they create.” Said Tom Gitogo, Britam Group Managing Director and CEO.

The Britam Enhanced Global Equities Special Fund will focus on global companies and industries expected to drive the next phase of economic growth. The fund will target sectors such as technology and artificial intelligence, healthcare and life sciences, energy and the digital economy.

This will give investors an opportunity to participate in the growth of businesses leading major changes in technology, healthcare, energy and other key areas of the global economy.

The Britam Multi Asset Special Fund will take a wider approach by investing across local and international asset classes. The portfolio will include equities, fixed-income investments and commodities, allowing investors to spread their exposure across different types of assets through one fund.

“These funds are the next step in widening the choices available to investors as their needs and ambitions evolve. We have built our offering from accessible local investments to a wider range of opportunities, and these funds extend that choice across global markets and asset classes, backed by the research, expertise and risk management of a professional investment manager.” Said Barack Obatsa, Chief Executive Officer of Britam Asset Managers.

The two funds give local investors more options as they seek to diversify their portfolios and access opportunities outside Kenya. By combining global equities with a multi-asset strategy, the new products expand the investment choices available to individuals looking for professionally managed opportunities in both local and international markets.
