In a significant move to tackle youth unemployment, Bingwa Services and the Kenya Alliance of Resident Associations (KARA) have signed a memorandum of understanding to bring skilled youth services to Kenyans and create substantial employment opportunities.

The ambitious initiative aims to reduce the number of unengaged skilled youths in Kenya from 6 million to zero within three years. This partnership, funded by the World Bank, intends to establish a sustainable and replicable model for youth engagement and employment that could serve as a template for other nations facing similar challenges.

Speaking at the signing event, former Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission Chairman, Mumo Matemu, highlighted the economic and social benefits of the partnership. “This initiative will optimize the productivity of Kenya’s young workforce, improve economic output, and provide meaningful engagement opportunities for Generation Z youths Matemu said. Our mission is to reduce unemployment by 0.7 percent in 365 days”.

Njihia Njoroge, Founder and CEO of Bingwa Services, emphasized the broader vision behind the partnership. “Our collaboration with KARA is not just about connecting service providers with residents. It’s about transforming Kenya’s economic and social landscape by harnessing the potential of our skilled Generation Z youth. We are acting to restore and reconcile, bringing an end to the pain of our youth and missed opportunities through this partnership.” Njoroge stated

Henry Ochieng, CEO of KARA, underscored the practical benefits for residents and service providers. “The Bingwa platform addresses concerns of convenience, reliability, efficiency, and security when dealing with blue-collar services. Residents will have easy access to a wide pool of skilled, certified, and vetted home service technicians, while young skilled individuals in our communities will find job opportunities.” Ochieng stated

KARA’s roles in the partnership include promoting the Bingwa platform within registered resident associations, acting as a liaison between associations and Bingwa Services, and facilitating the integration of the platform into existing communication channels. They will also collaborate on targeted marketing plans to encourage adoption among residents seeking home services.

The MoU signing marks the culmination of months of collaborative efforts and pilot activation exercises across Nairobi’s resident associations. Both parties expressed optimism about the positive impact this initiative will have on the economy and the community.

“This document is a testament to our shared commitment to collaboration and mutual success. We are confident that by combining our strengths, we will achieve our shared objectives and create a positive impact in our society and communities,” Njoroge added.
