Bata Shoe Kenya PLC, in collaboration with World Vision Kenya, has donated 355 pairs of school shoes to students of Chepseon and Belbur Primary Schools in Salgaa. The initiative, conducted through World Vision’s Gifts-in-Kind (GIK) program, aims to support vulnerable children by ensuring they have proper footwear to attend school comfortably and confidently.
The donation comes as a crucial intervention for many students facing food insecurity, lack of parental care, and other hardships. The two schools collectively serve over 1,700 learners, a significant portion of whom come from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Chepseon Primary School, established in 2013 to reduce child fatalities from road accidents, currently accommodates 747 students, many from impoverished families. Belbur Primary School, the only learning institution within a two-kilometer radius, provides education to 1,027 students in the densely populated area.
Speaking at the donation event, representatives from Bata Shoe Kenya and World Vision Kenya emphasized the importance of corporate partnerships in addressing social challenges.
“This initiative is part of our commitment to improving the lives of children by ensuring they have essential resources for education. Proper footwear plays a vital role in school attendance and confidence,” said a representative from Bata Shoe Kenya.
World Vision Kenya echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the impact of collaborative efforts in transforming communities.
The event also featured moments of joy as children received their new shoes, bringing smiles to their faces. Teachers and parents expressed their gratitude, noting that such donations alleviate financial burdens on struggling families.
The collaboration between Bata Shoe Kenya and World Vision Kenya demonstrates how corporate social responsibility initiatives can create tangible change in communities, especially in supporting education for vulnerable children.
