Absa Bank Kenya expands footprint with new branch in Kamakis, Ruiru

Absa Bank Kenya has opened a new branch in Kamakis, Ruiru, a rapidly growing town in Kiambu County, as part of its strategic expansion aimed at fostering financial inclusion and supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across the country. The branch, located at the Viashla Premier Business Centre, underscores the bank’s commitment to meeting the evolving needs of underserved communities.

The new branch is part of Absa’s broader strategy to expand its distribution network across Kenya, bringing essential banking services closer to customers in emerging growth areas. Kamakis, popularly referred to as the “Nyama Choma Belt,” is a bustling hub of diverse businesses, including restaurants, supermarkets, petrol stations, hospitals, and pharmacies.

Speaking during the branch’s official launch, Peter Mutua, Customer Network and Distribution Director at Absa Bank Kenya, highlighted the bank’s vision for tailored banking solutions.

“Our network strategy adapts and responds to evolving consumer needs. The Kamakis area is vibrant and dynamic, with businesses and individuals who are ambitious and resilient. This diversity presents a unique opportunity for us to provide financial and non-financial partnerships that support personal and business growth,” Mutua said.

He added that the new branch would create meaningful impacts by addressing the specific needs of traders, SMEs, and individual customers in Kamakis and the surrounding regions.

The opening of the Kamakis branch increases Absa Bank Kenya’s branch network to 86 across 38 counties. The bank has also grown its agency banking network significantly in 2024, increasing from 600 agents to 3,000. Plans are underway to expand this network to 17,000 agents over the next two years, further enhancing accessibility for customers.

“This comprehensive strategy will not only improve access to financial services but also provide customers with the flexibility to engage with the bank in ways that suit their lifestyles,” Mutua noted.

Absa Bank’s commitment to financial inclusion is evident in its continued efforts to support SMEs and other sectors driving Kenya’s economic growth. The bank’s focus on underserved communities aligns with its goal of empowering individuals and businesses to achieve sustainable growth.

Beyond providing banking services, Absa Bank Kenya seeks to foster economic empowerment in the communities it serves. According to Mutua, the Kamakis branch is more than just a banking facility – it is a partner in driving local economic development.

“Behind the businesses and growing population in Kamakis are stories of ambition and resilience. At Absa, every story matters. This is what drives our passion to create impactful solutions that uplift communities,” he said.

The bank’s expansion is expected to enhance financial literacy, encourage entrepreneurship, and promote economic growth in Kamakis and neighboring towns.

With its new branch and ambitious growth plans, Absa Bank Kenya is not only strengthening its market presence but also reinforcing its role as a key enabler of economic progress across the country.
